Advocacy
Side by Side Peer Advocacy.
Peer Advocates support other people with learning difficulties
to have a better life.
We can help you get your rights, get some information about
making choices, support you so that your voice is heard. For
example at meetings, to help you write letters, or to say what you
want.
When we work with people we try to build a picture of their
life, so we can understand what is important to them. We then agree
what things we can support them with, and take action.
This year we have 7 Peer Advocates. We do a lot of training and
work with professionals. It is very important for us to get
training and information to help us to do our job.
Being a Peer Advocate has helped me understand the problems
people with learning difficulties still have in their lives.
Bristol and South Gloucestershire People First speak up about
problems we have found and make changes happen.
We are very busy. We have a waiting list because lots of people
want help.
